Diamond

Congratulations, you are holding a natural brilliant-cut diamond. This sparkling gem weighs approximately 0.1 carats (1 carat = 0.2 grams) and has a color grade of H and a clarity grade of SI (slight inclusions).

This gemstone is a pure natural product, has a hardness of 10, and is therefore the hardest natural material found on Earth. For a long time, diamonds could not be cut due to their hardness, but only cleaved, which created the famous “diamond luster” on the cleavage surface. It wasn’t until around the 17th century that people gradually learned how to cut and polish them, allowing them to shine in their full brilliance.

Diamonds were initially mined primarily in India; today, most of these gemstones come from Africa, Australia, and Canada.

This masterpiece of nature was formed around 1 to 2 billion years ago, deep beneath us, at a depth of approximately 170–300 km below the Earth’s surface. A volcano then brought this sparkling gem to the surface, and thus to us.

We at The Natural Gem wish you much enjoyment with this unique piece. Here on our website you will find much more information about the diamond and other gemstones.
