High demand for Burmese rubies during Corona crisis

Burmese rubies from a search request from one of our clients: 1.2 to 3.4 ct weight, all naturally coloured, mostly “pigeon blood”, doubly certified in Switzerland and Austria.

We have engaged a Pakistani gentleman to spend four months in Burma looking for Burmese rubies. He is travelling through the valleys visiting mines in order to find stones for us.

This search has been anything but easy so far: according to our man on the ground, Burma is currently almost overrun by Chinese dealers buying stones of every quality grade, even those that would be impossible to resell here, and all in complete disregard of Covid-19.

Demand for such stones seems to have undergone a strong increase due to the virus, while digital value stores, especially cryptocurrencies, are falling.
