Agate, rock crystal and amethysts can be found, with luck even in gemstone quality. Gemstone guides and online forums like to point out that amber can also be found at the North and Baltic Sea: However, unlike real gemstones, amber is fossil resin.[/vc_column_text]

[vc_column_text]

The Schneckenstein – Topaz finds in Saxony

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]At the so-called Schneckenstein in Muldenhammer in Saxony there was a rich occurrence of topazes, the first find is documented in 1722. The stones were also called “Saxon diamonds” because they resemble diamonds when set in jewelry. Saxon topaz is found in varying shades of yellow, from golden yellow to greenish yellow. Very clear gemstones occur as well as those with inclusions, most commonly of tourmalines. Topazes from Schneckenstein are represented, for example, in the jewelry of the ruler Friedrich August of Saxony, which can be seen today in the Green Vault in Dresden. There are also topazes from Schneckenstein in the British crown jewels.

The topazes were professionally mined in a colliery from 1734, but as the quality of the stones found declined and the finds became more and more cracked and brittle, the colliery was closed down again in 1800. Since 1938 it is forbidden to search for minerals at the Schneckenstein, because it was put under nature protection.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″]

Since 1938 it is forbidden to search for minerals at the Schneckenstein, because it was put under nature protection.

[/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner]

[vc_column_text]

Gemstone finds in Idar-Oberstein

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”40904″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]In Rheinland-Pfalz entwickelten sich ab der Mitte des 19.
